Vacationing and Cheesemaking

Getting away from life and relaxing is an important part of existence. But most vacations are filled with activities, lots of driving, and making sure you make it somewhere before it closes. But what about the rest & recuperation that is supposed to accompany a vacation? Instead of rushing from place to place, snapping pictures of popular locations, why not try your hand at cheesemaking?

Agritourism is becoming more and more popular. It gets you away from the city, into some fresh air, and out on the farm. Whether you’re riding a tractor across acres of land, or in the barns milking the cows, agritourism offers a new experience that you can take as far as you’d like, spending the rest of your time actually resting and enjoying the gorgeous countryside where these farms and agricultural sites exist.

One of the most fun and interesting of these agricultural attractions is that of cheesemaking. Step onto the farm, see the cows, watch the milk be processed and batched into large wheels of cheese. And the best part of visiting a cheesemaker: you get to eat the cheese! If you’re in Western Canada, Danlac Canada Inc. is a great, family-owned business that offers the best in cheesemaking as well as the cheese itself. And if you don’t want to go on the farm but would rather make cheese at home, Danlac’s associate website, Make Cheese, will provide the means and expertise for you and yours.

If you’re not in Canada, there are numerous opportunities across Europe where you can volunteer or visit, including Woofing, where you can stay on a farm as long as you’d like, required you help out around the farm.

Whether or not agritourism is your thing, it can be a welcome reprieve from the repetitive, frantic schedules of a normal “vacation.”
